Traveling with a Smaller
Backpack
I love to travel. One of my big problems is figuring out what
to carry and how to take the right things without overloading my bags and hurting
my back. I need to use luggage and other travel gear that is lightweight, comfortable,
and looks good. Looks are less important that function, but it is a nice bonus.
First of all, airplane travel requires smaller amounts of stuff these days. There
are so many strict rules to follow. If you take carry-on luggage that is too
big you will get charged for it, or they'll force you to stow it beneath the
plane. For some things that is just not an option.
I like carrying a small backpack that contains some of my basic travel gear.
This would include emergency essentials like a toothbrush, money and IDs, as
well as a book to read, perhaps an Ipod and headphones. Food is a nice bonus,
but making sure I follow the rules on that one is time consuming.
I like the single strap concept because it's so easily thrown over your shoulder
and you don't have the bulk of the second strap. I need one with the right
amount of exterior pockets so I can quickly get to things I need, like money
or an ID. Of course my camera would be in its own bag, but for day trips this
would make a wonderful light back for just a few of the photography essentials.
If you have one of those cute little netbooks they also make a great single strap
laptop backpack that is easy to manage and will discreetly carry that cute
little computer wherever you go. It will keep it protected without putting
you in traction. |
